Our Purpose

At Smarter Surfaces our purpose is to create innovative, collaborative and engaging modern working and learning spaces by adding functionality to surfaces.

Our History

While working in the construction industry, a customer asked Ronan our founder to cover an entire meeting room with whiteboards. Ronan quickly realized that this solution wouldn’t fit their needs and looked terrible with all the joints and unused surface area. Ronan had a better idea. What if you could write on the entire wall seamlessly? The idea for Smarter Surfaces was born.

Over the next few years, Ronan worked on developing a new whiteboard coating technology. This eventually led to the creation and launch of Smart Wall Paint, our first whiteboard paint, in 2012. Word spread quickly and the product took off, with businesses, schools and universities using and enjoying the benefits of whiteboard paint all around the world. Entire offices, meeting rooms, hallways, tables, desks and doors were being transformed into collaborative working spaces.

With the widest functional surfaces range of magnetic, whiteboard and projection products available we have gained a reputation for our ability to design and create innovative products through our ongoing R&D, ensuring we are at the forefront of the market.

Smarter Surfaces has a global presence, which currently extends to over 20 countries in five continents. Used by clients such as Microsoft, Google, Tesco, Coca-Cola, University of Sydney, University of Connecticut, Andrew Winch Designs, ECE Architecture, Hilson Moran and many more, the Smarter Surfaces™ brand is globally recognized and respected.

Management Team

Ronan Clarke – Founder of Smarter Surfaces

Ronan is a successful entrepreneur with an original background in construction and property investment at home and overseas in later years his career has focused on R&D, product development, and international sales. In 1998 whilst still in school Ronan founded and grew a successful multi-million euro construction business, which employed fifty staff.

In 2011, Ronan founded Smarter Surfaces and proudly the Smarter Surfaces team have been recognised with awards such as the David Manley Business Award, PwC Innovation Award, Irish Exporters Association Small Exporter of the Year Award, and the Ulster Bank Business Achievers Award.

John Byrne – Financial Controller

John is a Chartered Accountant who trained with leading international accountancy firm, Mazars.

A senior financial executive with a proven track record of business development and relationship management, John has 25 years’ experience in a range of industrial sectors including transport, retail, manufacture and export. He has managed turnovers in excess of €30 million and staffing of 50 plus.

Audiola Lumnica – Supply Chain & Operations Manager

Supply Chain & Operations lead, Audiola holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Studies and is proficient in Supply Chain and Lean Management.

She has brought her service focused approach to her role in managing the Supply Chain and Operations Department in the company. Her main focus is the efficient delivery of all operational, logistics and supply chain activities while ensuring customer service and supplier relationships are maintained and developed.

Sonia Bueno - Sales Manager

Sonia holds a Master’s Degree from DIT Dublin and brings strong expertise in sales strategy, business development and customer relationship management to the company.

As the leader of the Sales and Customer Service teams, Sonia is focused on driving revenue and ensuring we live up to our customer experience values. Sonia plays a central role across the wider team with her leadership being key to aligning the sales operations with the company’s strategic goals.

Continuing to grow our international distribution network is a key focus for Sonia through building relationships with our existing global partners and expanding our distributor network worldwide.

We reach customers and markets through our growing distribution network and seek to partner with great local distributors looking for an opportunity to bring an innovative range of products to their customer base and local market. Smarter Surface distribution relationships are based on a long term partnership approach. Our focus is on growing our partnerships, both new and existing, to develop their markets in a collaborative and supportive way.

We also offer the option to sell under private label for partners that are already well established in their market and would like to expand their range and consumer base.
