The whiteboard wall paint was extremely easy to apply

The whiteboard wall paint was extremely easy to apply – and the customer service was accessible and helpful so I was delighted to give a review for this whiteboard paint and company! As a teacher you try to present as many different ways as possible to teach a concept and having the extra large dry erase wall helped us to teach concepts, facilitate games and student bonding and write instructions. We have no problem erasing everything with a multi purpose sponge eraser! It has been a HUGE learning tool for our classroom and we are forever grateful.

Turning Complex Workflows into Clear Action

At any one time I work on 8-10 initiatives and your dry erase marker paint has enabled me to better visualize what I need to do. It’s useful for brainstorming and process evaluation, so much so that we’ve recently purchased it for our marketing department. It’s a great fit for our company and a 5 start review for whiteboard paint.

FAQ's

General Product Questions

What is antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

Antimicrobial whiteboard paint from Smarter Surfaces is a new whiteboard paint that stops bacteria from multiplying on the whiteboard surface. It works by using silver ion antimicrobial technology to:

  • Interrupts bacteria and fungi cell metabolism
  • Inhibits cellular division
  • Disrupts transport across cell walls

Basically, it stops the bacteria from multiplying by stopping the membrane around the cell (like the skin of the cell) from working. Antimicrobial whiteboard paint is a great solution where many people and teams will use the whiteboard paint and creating a safe working surface is a consideration.

Antimicrobial vs Antibacterial vs Antiviral. What’s the difference between antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiviral?

All bacteria are microbes, however not all microbes are bacteria.

Antimicrobials can refer to agents that deal with fungi and other microbes as well as bacteria. Antibacterial agents will only deal with bacteria. They are both different from antiviral agents.

Antiviral is specifically for things such as COVID-19, which are a different type of cell. The main difference being that the viruses tend to have a fatty surround, so in order to kill viruses you often have a two-part process where you basically have to get through the fatty part to get to the virus itself.

How does antimicrobial/antibacterial paint work?

Antimicrobial paint contains certain agents that destroy or inhibit the growth of microorganisms, especially those that are pathogenic.

The antibacterial paint uses broad spectrum antimicrobial technology that is effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. We use a highly effective antimicrobial agent that is based on silver phosphate glass technology that kills microorganisms and stops their growth. We have developed a new whiteboard paint technology specifically designed to combat the types of bacteria that would likely be found on a surface that is used as a whiteboard. The antibacterial technology is registered for use by the EU Biocidal Products Directive.

What does Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint work against?

The antimicrobial dry erase paint will work against: MRSA, MSSA, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Does Antimicrobial whiteboard paint have certification?

Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint is independently certified to ISO 22196 to kill bacteria such as MRSA, MSSA, Salmonella, Ecolia and Fungi.

What is considered antibacterial? What are antibacterial agents?

An antibacterial agent is anything that destroys bacteria or suppresses their growth or their ability to reproduce. Antibacterial agents will only work against bacteria but will not be effective against viruses or fungi such as MRSA, MSSA, or Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Are there different colors of antimicrobial whiteboard paint available?

Antimicrobial whiteboard paint is available in a white finish. It allows you to benefit from whiteboard functionality.

Application & Usage

What roller should you use to paint Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint with?

Each kit is supplied with a roller designed to be used with Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint. For best results, apply paint using a mohair or lint free short pile roller sleeve. If you are using a mohair roller, remove all loose fibres before use.

Can antimicrobial whiteboard paint be applied to any surface?

Yes, it can be applied to almost any smooth surface, including concrete, glass, metal, and wood. For best results, prime the surface first using White Primer or a high-quality water-based white primer.

Can you paint glass with antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

Yes, Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint can be applied to glass surfaces. To achieve a durable dry-erase finish, first apply Primer to the glass to promote strong adhesion and create a suitable base for the paint.

Can you use antimicrobial whiteboard paint on wood?

Yes, Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint can be applied to wooden surfaces. Ensure the wood is smooth and free of imperfections, and fill any holes or gaps with a suitable filler. Before applying the antimicrobial whiteboard paint, use White Primer and lightly sand between coats for the best finish. Re-apply primer where needed before applying the final coating.

Can you use antimicrobial whiteboard paint on wallpaper?

Yes, painting over wallpaper is possible. You can apply Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint over smooth wallpaper only. Do not apply over a textured wallpaper. For a white finish, apply 2 coats of White Primer.

Can antimicrobial whiteboard paint be used outside?

Yes. The product has been tested to withstand temperatures up to minus 16 degrees celsius and is UV light (ultraviolet) resistant. However, the area should be sheltered and dry to ensure best performance. Please note Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint should not be stored for an extended period of time below zero.

Can you paint onto the floor with antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint has not been tested for slip resistance and as with any painted finish it could wear according to the traffic on it. The performance guarantee is as a dry erase paint and does not extend beyond that.

Can you paint an existing whiteboard with Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint?

Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint is an ideal whiteboard repair product for most antimicrobial whiteboard surfaces. Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint can be applied directly onto existing whiteboards after applying White Primer (please note a primer is necessary before antimicrobial whiteboard paint application), just ensure all marker residue has been removed. For blackboards, we recommend you wipe the surface down with a damp cloth to remove any old chalk. Next, coat the blackboard with White Primer. To complete, apply Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint.

What type of heater can be used to speed up the primer’s drying process? Can an infrared lamp be used?

A normal fan heater can be used to speed up the drying process. An infrared lamp can also be used but it can’t be placed too close to the surface.

Can you paint over antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

In most cases, yes, you can paint over antimicrobial whiteboard paint. However, it's important to ensure proper adhesion and compatibility between the existing antimicrobial whiteboard paint and the new paint.

How do I remove the antimicrobial whiteboard paint from my skin?

There are two ways you can remove antimicrobial whiteboard paint from skin. The first option is to mix salt into warm water and rinse your hands with the solution. The second option is to use a premade material called sand soap which can be purchased in any good car parts store.

What do I do if I spill the antimicrobial whiteboard paint?

Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint can be cleaned with any Xylene based cleaner. This can be easily found in DIY or motor stores. Please note, this is not suitable for removing Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint from skin.

Surface Prep & Priming

Why should I apply primer before applying Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint?

A primer helps give a surface a smooth finish. Secondly, they act to ‘seal’ a surface. This means that when you apply Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint on a surface that has been primed, the properties within the antimicrobial whiteboard paint will stay on the wall rather than being absorbed into the wall. In summary, using a primer or sealer means you will get a smoother surface with optimum write-on-wipe-off functionality.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Why are there shadows or large marks on my surface, and how can I fix them?

Shadows or large marks on your surface are usually caused by incorrect application or by applying the paint over an area larger than the coverage specified for the kit. To achieve the best results, always follow the Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint application guide and ensure the product is applied only to the recommended surface area.

To remove marks, we recommend using the Permanent Ink Remover on the affected areas. This high-performance cleaner is designed for stubborn stains and should not be used as part of your regular cleaning routine. If the issue persists, please email a photo of the affected area, along with your order number and total surface size (m²), to support@smartersurfaces.ae so the team can provide further assistance.

Can I use alcohol to clean my Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint surface?

Continued use of alcohol on Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint may deteriorate the integrity of your surface and reduce performance. We offer a wide range of whiteboard accessories to maintain the quality of the surface.

Can I use permanent markers, and how do I remove them?

No, Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint is not designed for use with permanent markers. If permanent marker ink is accidentally applied, first try writing over the mark with a dry erase marker and wait for approximately two minutes before wiping it away. This can help reactivate the ink and make it easier to remove. For more stubborn marks, ghosting, or stains, use the Permanent Ink Remover, a specialised cleaner formulated for whiteboards and antimicrobial whiteboard painted surfaces.

Functionality & Performance

Will the walls yellow in sunlight?

Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint is used in very hot climates all over the world including the Middle East and Australia. UV resistance means that interior surfaces with Antimicrobial Whiteboard Paint will not yellow, even in the hottest conditions.

Can you use antimicrobial whiteboard paint as a projector screen?
